Vigorous Growing-Immune to Disease and Insects that Make Growing Chestnuts Difficult
Seguin chestnut is a reliable fruiting chestnut with no weevil damage with high blight resistance. The dark brown small nuts are one of the sweetest we have tasted. It fruits quick from seed in as little as 3 to 5 years after planting. Our seed seed sources show a more timber like growth habit. Not much is known about this plant in cultivation. The seeds are hard to get commercially and for us it is a race against the red squirrels who inhabit our orchard. Currently this plant is not available and it is unknown when we will have it again. Our guess is fall of 2021 at this time. We refurbished the area surrounding these trees and hope to protect them more closely.
Our seed source of this tree is based on an arboretum planting and may not be true to the species type. Looking at the leaf characteristics it appears to be a hybrid of some sort. The seeds were from a very short season climate originally and they tend to ripen early.
