Riverview American Black Currant

Pot, 6-12" RABC_6-12 $9.25 Out of stock
Delicious Wild Black Currant

From the Big Sioux River in South Dakota USDA NRCS selection from riverplain populations in Zone 4 a. Long racemes of fragrant yellow flowers appear in April with fruit ripening in southern Michigan in early August. Riverview appears more productive with larger fruit than our previous Michigan selection and possibly could be commercially grown or at the very least come up with a few selections from this seed strain. Can be eaten fresh or cooked. Not as strong flavored as the European black currants. Very high in iron, minerals and antioxidants. Usually found in wetlands in the shade of other plants, it can be cultivated with ease in any soil. Immune to white pine blister rust. Two is better for this species to fruit. Light shade appears better for yields as well.
