Bright Red Color-Extremely Hardy Alaskan Apple

Selected apple-crab with exceptional hardiness and large 1 1/2 " bright red or yellow fruit. Juicy, sweet and tart flavor depending on the selection.  Good fresh only after letting set for a while to let mellow. Very productive. Some of the genes are from an Alaskan variety as well as the ever tough Dolgo Crab. Listed as breeding true from seed. I think there may be some variation in this strain.  The seedlings are useful as is or to be used as an extra hardy rootstock. Our strain has been selected over the years to include  disease free foliage and plants with vigorous growth. 

To germinate the seeds: Fall plant outside 1/4 inch deep 1 inch apart in a normal garden type soil that is cultivated. For the refrigerator method put the seeds in a zip lock bag with lightly damp Canadian Peat moss at 33-38 F for 60-120 days. Seeds will sprout a little in the fridge after 60-90 days. Plant those seeds as they sprout. After 90-120 put the bag at room temperature and the rest will quickly follow suit. If some seeds do not sprout the first year you will need to repeat the process again in the fall. Normally this is not necessary but does seem to occur in some of these ultra northern seed strains.
