Nutty Groundnut

4 Tubers, NUGR $12.75 Out of stock
Largest Tuber Variety-Massive Potato Sized

Originally bred in Louisiana this selection is tops in tuber size. Nuts average 3 to 5 inches in diameter and have a very smooth light skin. Vines can grow up to 50 ft. or more in a single season so trellising would be of benefit. Completely hardy and productive in southern Michigan. Excellent potato flavor. Great fried in ghee. Available during the dormant season from mid October through early May.This selection is one of the earlier varieties selected from the LSU breeding program. We are unsure if its exact number but might be similar or identical to 1972 or 2083. Some of the less known selections were given to us many years ago and we began growing them under the 'Nutty' name as they had no formal name at that time.  Each of these selections are worth growing in northern reaches of zone 5 but tuber size tends to be smaller reaching only3-4 inches in diameter. But if in doubt for your region try the 'Kennebec' variety. Even though a nitrogen fixer adding additional nitrogen appears to really crank out the tubers and increases vine growth tremendously.
