Fragrant, Easy to Grow
One of the most forgiving native roses Prickly fruits in light shade producing medium sized hips in clusters near the ends of the branches. Plants sucker out and spread by stolons. As mature canes die off new suckers become the new plant ad infinitum. Each plant is clothed with small bristle like thorns. These have only a minor pricker effect compared to other species. Takes about 2-3 years to fruit. This plant is not dense growing and reaches 2-4 ft. with individual canes remaining mostly vertical. Prickly is a circumpolar species found in the most northern areas in the world. Our seedling planting here originally came from the rocky coast line of Lake Superior.
