Weisse Truffel is a very heavy producer of uniform round and oblong shaped white tubers. Frequently this plant produces smaller round tubers especially if planted in light shade or pots. The tubers tend to grow all along the main stem as well as producing some runners. This plant appears not to stolon as much as other sunchokes and is not as tall averaging 6 ft. in height at our farm. The raw flavor is mild. Because of its clean appearance and being easy to clean this is a good one for culinary uses and farmers markets. With yields being good, Weisse Truffel is probably a good 'commercial' sunchoke especially if anyone develops a good harvester.

This is a good selection as it is easy to harvest with uniform easy to clean tubers. Appears to be resistant to mildew so leaf retention is good in the fall. Early to mid season variety ready to harvest in mid to late September. |
