Trazel

Large Shrub-Highly Adaptable to Impoverished Soils-Productive Open Pollinated Selection

Trazels are large shrubs and multi-stemmed hazels easily grown in a variety of soils and climates. Our  Ecos seed source originally came from an Illinois farmer who had two plants in a fence row growing and producing well for the last 50 years. Our plants are now growing on a sandy hillside and have stayed healthy over the last 20 years with little incidence of filbert blight. The nuts are similar to the American hazels but twice the size which are ‘housed’ in a round baseball sized cluster. Very good flavor with high oil content. It is best to use two of these plants for cross pollination and heavier fruit set. Height to 15-20 ft. with equal width. Cannot ship to WA and OR.
